Wayne and Dana on the beach at White Harbour, Jost Van Dyke. Still managed to smile even though I was soaked to the skin. |
We
were on our way for a beach walk along White Bay and a stop at Soggy Dollar
to try a Painkiller. Soggy Dollar is reputedly the originator of the Painkiller.
But first, we had to dinghy in from our boat.
“When
we hit the beach, jump and tow us in,” Wayne instructed.
Remember
those old James Bond car ejection seats, which hurtled its occupant directly up
and out of the car? That’s what I
looked like when our dinghy “hit the beach” literally. Wayne thought I jumped prematurely, or
tripped on our dinghy painter.
Nope. I got
jettisoned. The beach was that steep
and when we hit it, we hit it hard,
even though it was just sand.
Boing!
I
was so soaked, we stuck to just a beach walk as the sun was setting, though
certainly I was a true candidate for “Soggy Dollar.”
After
a sand-shaking swim and a hot shower, I tried my hand at making Paninkillers
aboard that night. Not bad. Not bad at all.
